Privacy
GatherWise is a listing site for community events. It needs an email address to give you an account and a booking, and it does not want anything else.

Browsing without an account
You can read every public page — the home page, search, and any published event — without an account, and doing so sets no cookies at all. There is no analytics script, no advertising pixel, and no third-party tag on any page of this site.
Two things are remembered in your own browser and never sent to us: the events you save, and whether you chose the light or dark theme. Both live in your browser’s local storage. Clearing your site data removes them, and we cannot see them at any point.
What an account stores
When you create an account we hold:
- your email address, so you can sign in and be told about your bookings;
- your password, which is hashed by our authentication provider. GatherWise never sees or stores the password itself;
- the events you book — which event, when you booked, your ticket, and whether it has been checked in at the door;
- if you organize events: the event pages you write and any images you upload for them.
Once you are signed in, a session cookie identifies you to the server. It is strictly necessary — it is what being signed in is — and it is not used to profile you or to follow you anywhere else.
What an organizer can see
Booking a place tells the organizer of that event that you are coming. They can see the email address you booked with and your ticket, and they can check that ticket in at the door. GatherWise has no profile beyond an email address — there is no name field on an account — so an email address and a booking is the whole of what an organizer learns. They cannot see anything that is not connected to their own event, and that boundary is enforced by the database itself rather than by the interface.
Who else handles it
GatherWise is a small site and does not run its own servers. Three providers process data on our behalf, and no others:
- Supabase — the database, the sign-in system, and image storage.
- Vercel — hosting. The application runs in Vercel’s Montreal region.
- Resend — sending the transactional email described below.
Nothing is sold, rented, or shared with anyone for advertising. There is no data broker in this list and there will not be one added quietly — this page changes first.
Email we send
We send email that is part of using the site: confirming your address when you sign up, confirming a booking, and telling you if an event you booked is cancelled. There is no marketing mailing list, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from.
Payments
GatherWise does not take payments. Every event on it is a free RSVP, no card details are ever entered, and there is no payment provider in the list above. If that changes, this page and the terms change with it, before it does.
Logs and abuse prevention
The server keeps short-lived technical logs of requests so that faults can be diagnosed. Email addresses and credentials are stripped out of those logs before they are written.
To stop one person flooding the sign-in form or the search, we count recent requests against a one-way salted hash of the email address or network address involved, rather than against the address itself. Those counters are swept regularly.
How long it is kept
Your account and its bookings are kept while the account exists. A booking record outlives the event itself, because an organizer needs to be able to account for who attended.
Seeing or deleting your data
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for your account and its data to be deleted. There is no self-service delete button yet, so this is done by email and by hand: write to hello@gatherwise.ca from the address on the account.
Deleting your account removes your bookings. Events you published as an organizer, and the fact that a place at them was taken, may be kept where other people’s records depend on them.
Children
GatherWise is not intended for children, and accounts are for adults. If you believe a child has created an account, write to hello@gatherwise.ca and it will be removed.
Changes to this policy
The date at the top is when this page last changed. If a change means we would hold something new about you, it appears here before it happens rather than afterwards.
